Hi Guys,
Sorry for the sparse content recently, I have been away from the studios and have been with bad internet. Anyway, I wanted to tell you about a really cool app called iDiscrete. iDiscrete is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and I have been using it a lot lately as a security solution. The purpose behind iDiscrete is to create a very secure environment for your files, and make it seem like you do not have anything to hide. The way they do this is with a patented technology that encompasses gestures in order to create a way for people who do not know the gesture from even knowing that there were hidden files. There is a new version out that supports a myriad of files, and all necessary file types are now available to encrypt with iDiscrete, including documents and media files. It is overall a great application for security that can, as they say, “keep your private life private.” Also, it only costs $1.99 U.S., so it is a great value and can be found on the app store.

Before I begin today’s review, I would like to let you know that MacMania will be happening this week. If you do not see it in your feeds on Sunday, please do not be alarmed, as it will be coming out on Monday this week. There will still be great content, so wait for it in your feeds on Monday.

Anyway, I will now get on with today’s review. Today, I will be reviewing an application called frame4zoom, which is software made to fit in with your image processing workflow. The application is another one of those applications that does one thing and does it well, which is great for its type of application.

Today, I will actually be reviewing a preference pane for you called Widget Manager. As you probably know, Apple has a program called Dashboard included on Mac OS 10.4 and later, which is a utility that can be invoked so that one can view a collection of widgets above their applications. Widgets are like small programs, and range from notes to clocks to weather, and are often helpful in day-to-day life. However, these can become cluttered, and that is where Widget Manager comes in.

After doing the news last night about Apple’s announcements, I am back to doing reviews. I found an app in beta called Lyn, which is an image browser for your Mac. When Lyn is first opened, it resembles Aperture or Adobe Bridge in certain ways, in that it has a toolbar on the top, a sidebar on the left, and a main window in the middle for doing your actual image browsing.

I have been using a great app from Bare Bones Software for quite some time, and have yet to give it a review. Keeping with my trend of doing a review per day, I have time to get around to this app. TextWrangler is a powerful, yet free text editor very helpful for programming and web design. The same company also makes an even more powerful app called BBEdit, which is considered to be one of the industry standards in terms of text editors. However, TextWrangler will do it for most.

I happened upon a cool app today called Anxiety, which is a todo list application for your Mac. One of the great things that I found about Anxiety as soon as I downloaded it, is that it interfaces directly with my iCal calendars, and my iCal application interfaces with Google Calendar. When I saw this feature, I thought that it would be great to be able to add todos to my Google calendar straight from a window on my desktop, but unfortunately, it would not allow me to use a CalDAV server from within (that is the server on which Google Calendar runs). I then found out, though, that the reason for that was that it was not using iCal, but instead was using Mail’s todo list. However, it still did the trick.

I found a cool app this evening called NanoCustomizer, which is an interesting solution for customizing your Mac. NanoCustomizer allows you to do three main things, which include showing and hiding your hidden files, customizing your dock, and editing your login screen.

As many of you probably know, I do a lot of freelance web development, mostly using WordPress, for clients. In doing this, I need to make sure that all of the code that I write and modify is compliant to the W3C’s standards. The W3C is the World Wide Web Consortium, and they publish a set of standards with which web developers and designers should make sure to comply.
